Taco Seasoning

If you haven't considered making your own taco seasoning, I highly recommend it! It is simple to do and you avoid lots of unnecessarily and sometimes unhealthy additives! Also something to consider if you have food allergies! The following list is just a few of the additives found in some of the popular taco seasoning packages you may want to avoid.

- potato starch

- maltodextrin (heavily processed starch used as a filler, thickener, preservative or sweetener)

- corn starch

- vegetable oil blends

- lactose

- enriched wheat flour

Taco Seasoning Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 T chili powder

  • 4 T cumin

  • 2.5 T black pepper

  • 2 T paprika

  • 2 T sea salt

  • 2 tsp garlic powder

  • 2 tsp onion powder

  • 2 tsp oregano

  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes

  • 1/4 tsp or more of cayenne if you like it muy caliente (optional)

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients and mix well. Add to a 1 cup sized air tight container. This recipe will yield 1 cup of seasoning. If you don't use taco seasoning as frequently as my family does, half the recipe :)

  • Add 2 T of taco seasoning to each pound of cooked ground meat to make taco seasoned meat.
